“I am really lucky to live so close to Bistro 61. I have had numerous meals at this restaurant and I have to say it is on point every time…from the charming ambiance to the delicious French bistro food to the excellent service!”
~ Loretta W., Manhattan, NYC
“Small cozy French Bistro place with delicious French food, great vibes and awesome staff. Its a local neighborhoody restaurant place feel, but people come from all over and its not just an “NYC upper east side” type crowd. Oh yeah and some very well priced deals at certain times. I’ve been for brunch several times and always loved what I ordered–omelets, eggs Florentine, etc. They have a great $20 brunch deal which includes one brunch drink, coffee and an entrée. I’m a bloody mary fanatic and the bloodys here really hit the spot. Ive also been for the 2-for-1 drinks happy hour during the week–which is quiet but nice, don’t go expecting crazy happy hour bar scene–and have really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend coming to Bistro 61 for brunch whether or not you live in the area. This is my go to spot for nice relaxed delicious and affordable weekend brunch!”
~Michelle G., Upper East Side, Manhattan, NY
“We had the 3 course French Bistro deal and it was lovely! Great service, great atmosphere- French bistro/café with nice exposed brick- we had the salmon and mussels- both were very enjoyable. Bread basket is yummers.”

“Bistro 61 gets a solid 3.75 stars. This is my second time coming here. The food is authentic French, the waiters are very accommodating, and the reservations are easy to come by. I ate the salmon entrée, with truffle Mac n’ cheese, dessert and 2 Manhattans which came to about $60 (split the price of shared mac w/ a friend), minus tip. My friend, who eats here every other week who lives on the Upper East Side of NYC, had the same. She seems to love it much more than me because the waiters are so attractive…well at least the asst manager is. Don’t get me wrong; dinner was delicious. You’d have to be a moron worthy of the wrath of Gordon Ramsey if a chef couldn’t cook salmon to perfection; it’s the easiest fish to serve.”

“Stumbled on this place walking home from work at the hospital. I pass it every day, looks so unassuming from the outside. To my surprise – I was greeted by a competent staff and excellent French food and a great wine list. Have been going to the bistro at least once every two weeks for the last couple of months. Great mussels, and excellent pasta. Try this restaurant, you won’t be disappointed.”

“I was pleasantly surprised with this establishment. And once I heard mussels I was sold. The location is on 61st and 1st Avenue by Bed Bath & Beyond on the Upper East Side. We came in on a Monday roughly ay 6:30 there were about 10 others there.
We were seated by the window and given menus. Our deal was $31 for two drinks, one shared appetizers and two mussel pots. We went with their white wine and a crab appetizer (La Timbale de Crabe Frais), it was great.
Next came our mussels, We received a small pot (1lb) each of a flavored mussel of our choice, I went with Les Moules á la Provençale and my friend went with Les Moules Marinières. Our waitress refilled our bread so we were able to soak up the sauce with our bread. I would come back to this bistro again, it had a great ambiance, the waitress was very accommodating, and the food was superb.”

“Popped in there one cold Sunday night. I got the lamb burger. It is BY FAR the best lamb burger I’ve ever had and will return for it. It’s a good option for First Ave UES NYC dining!”
~Steve H., East Hampton, New York
“As a routine diner at Bistro 61 my opinion my be slightly biased, but the French food and restaurant service is spectacular just the same.
The Bistro Brunch is always great with moderate portions. Evan always ensures every group is properly cared for and the service is bar none. The wait staff is always friendly and extremely competent. The mimosas and Irish and French coffees are superb as is the brunch food selection. For dessert I would go with nothing but Crepe Suzette, not only is the taste fantastic, but the presentation is fabulous when they are flambeed at the table.
Everyone boast about the mussels (the moules frites) for dinner, while I agree they are incredible and you can bring the biggest appetite as they are all you can eat for a fix price with 5-6 different flavor selections, I would also recommend some of the other French fare as well with the salmon and the chicken both being superb, well flavored, adequately portioned, and cooked to perfection.”
~William R., New York, New York
“Not many people associate the French with great burgers, but I believe that Bistro 61 claimed many burger points for the French (ok so there really aren’t officially burger points but I have a score card in my head). The restaurant is creative with their use of cheese, flavoring and onion preparation to give their burgers a very distinctive taste. When I go for pickup I have always found the staff to be very attentive.”

“My boyfriend and I went to Bistro 61 here for our anniversary. The food was excellent. I had the steak frites with porcini sauce, which was cooked perfectly and delicious. My boyfriend had mussels and thought they were excellent as well. We had fondue for dessert, and the small size was more than enough for both of us.
The decor was really nice. It was romantic but still casual, and kind of trendy in a hipster way, but not to the point that I felt uncomfortable or annoyed. It was absolutely what we were looking for. Even though I hate going over to the upper east side, I’m definitely going to go back!”

“I have lived around the corner from 61st street for 4 years now and never have been. A couple of weeks ago my gf and I were looking for somewhere to eat outside. Merchants, the first outdoor section was saw, was full so we kept walking. We were looking for a place where we could smoke cigarettes outside.
My old boss loved this place and raved about the unique French Bistro food plates now I totally understand why. We sat on the 61st street side of outdoor seats.
Staff: Very friendly (not like the typical French, LOL) and in no rush to get you out of there (actually had to haggle them to get my check, which was fine since we were lingering for a while) Food: I can only speak to the Mussels, but they were great. GF had the cold cut platter and enjoyed it. Coffee and fondue to end the meal. I’m not fondue expert, but how can someone do melted chocolate and fruit horribly. Table next to us got the Burgers… they looked amazing
The greatest part was that we were able to hang out there for a while and were treated like regulars. (You can also smoke at the side tables.. not the end all be all, but a bonus)
I will definitely add it to the neighborhood rotation.”

“I’ve been coming to Bistro 61 for several years, whether as a couple or with large groups. It is my favorite place in the neighborhood. They’ve managed to consistently turn out wonderful French bistro food at affordable prices. The staff is always gracious and accommodating. My favorites are the escargots appetizer, the mussels/fries, and any of the beef dishes. An added attraction is the excellent wine list. It’s the perfect neighborhood place — cozy, comfortable, yet with high-level cuisine. And their sister restaurant, Marche du Sud up the block is special and unique in ITS own way! A must-visit for both of them.”
~ Andrea B., New York, New York
“Magnificent Mussels!”: We had a wonderful dining experience at Bistro 61. They have expanded from Tuesdays only to All You Can Eat Moules Frites during the week. Three of us sampled the six styles of mussels served and were delighted with them all. My preference was Les Moules á la Sauce Piquante and then Les Moules á la Moutarde as I prefer them a bit on the spicy side. Our server Rafalle and the staff were very attentive, the wine list was quite adequate for the menu. We enjoyed ourselves for a few hours and never felt rushed. Which for a NYC French restaurant, was a welcome surprise. We will be recommending and returning to Bistro 61 when we visit the city.”

“My favorite NYC restaurant”: Food is excellent, and wait staff make you feel like friends they’re happy to see. Management truly cares about every aspect of the business. Nice little extras such as a bite of dark chocolate on the espresso saucer.”

“Great Value”: We had excellent, friendly service even with our group of 7. Everyone love their meals and the crepes for dessert were the perfect ending. Reasonable wine list and menu, neighborhood “gem” – not like a typical French restaurant. Just a very pleasant evening, we will definitely go back when back in New York City.”

“A good place to eat great food in a relaxed restaurant and watch NYC stroll by”: I ordered the lobster ravioli and it was very good. The wine selection tasty, service on par with the restaurant, friendly and quick. They have an all you can eat mussel special that if I had one more night in NYC I would have tried. Great that they have outdoor space – you can smoke cigarettes in a designated area.”
~Walt V, Cleveland, Ohio
“Great French restaurant in NYC”: The staff at Bistro 61 was extremely friendly and the food was superb. I would highly recommend bistro to any one I knew. Everything is great.”
“Worth going out of your way”: Charming, friendly, great French food, good art on the walls. Enjoyed mussels, Rossini burger, crab sliders, lamb burger linguini with lobster sauce.”
~Ayacuchano, Columbus, Georgia
“An oasis in New York City”: Bistro 61 is one of these unique places you so seldom find. A perfect combination of great menu, great wines, great staff, affordable prices and a personal, inviting, charming environment. Try the mussels (the moules frites) in any variation. You will love this place.”

“A great local spot with a cozy atmosphere and wonderful food!”: Bistro 61 is a nice local place with reasonable prices and delicious French food. It has a great wine list and reasonable drink prices. The burgers and fries are very good traditional meal but they also have mussels if you want a great appetizer!”
~biologygal, San Antonio, Texas
“Superb French Neighborhood Bistro”: Perfect French cuisine. Do you like mussels? tuna tartare? great steak and burgers? frites? The servers know what wine to recommend and the best special dish you’ll crave – they’re very friendly, so courteous, efficient. It’s great for kids, couples and an all girls night out. I’ve eaten here several times, simply because I can’t stand cooking at home – always too busy with other NY stuff. So yes, the neighborhood goes here and this review’s risk is that I may wait for a table next time. Enjoy!”
~MPNY, New York City, New York
“Les moules sont superb!”: We were staying close by and found the French neighborhood type restaurant through Trip Advisor and also walked past. We went on Tuesday night when the daily special is mussels (all you eat moules frites) with a choice of 6 sauces plus a glass of house select wine. Food was great. House wine was a Portuguese red blend and an excellent wine. Very happy with the welcome, service and ambiance. We would definitely go again.”

“Gourmet!:The atmosphere at Bistro 61 is quaint, charming and fun. The food is delicious and the selections are varied. I love the menu both the covers and the content. The owner and wait service are courteous and eager to please.
We’ve eaten there for lunch and dinner when we visit New York City and are always delighted with the meals. Our dinner favorites: Risotto with assorted wild mushrooms, parmesan cheese & black truffle oil; Grilled Atlantic salmon served with Provençale ratatouille & roasted pepper coulis; Free-range roast 1⁄2 chicken served with mixed vegetables, truffle mashed potato & rosemary sauce.”

“Wonderful French bistro fare fairly priced and served up by a knowledgeable and friendly staff. Make sure to try the “bouillibase” soup with rouille an authentically French meal and turned into a great appetizer by Bistro 61. Also don’t miss the foies gras burger and daily specials like rib eye steak.”

“Quality food and excellent service at this UES NYC French Bistro. The menu is full of Parisien delectables including mouth watering escargot, beef tartare, Mussels and a Foie Gras Burger to die for. Happy to see they improved decor with lighter colors but still exhibit great art work from NYC artists. Best French Restaurant on Upper East Side.”

“For the past 5 years I’ve been eating at Bistro 61 on the UES in NYC… initially because is was close, and then because there’s not a restaurant in this area and beyond that promises not to get boring!!! Beside the fact there are always delicious sounding choices, the preparation that goes improved or duplicated! The staff is exemplary! Viva la Bistro 61!”

“Bistro 61 is a great neighborhood gem with a fantastic cast of characters that work there. They are attentive, polite, and very friendly. The French food (having been to Paris myself) is simply fabulous — authentic and flavorful. They also have a great “”daily special”” where every day, the bistro offers a different “”wheel of fortune”” for the customer to win anything from a free drink to a free meal!”
